Policy has the feeling of the Run DMC lyric,
It’s like that and that’s the way it is
Guidelines on the other hand gives you room to play, make decisions and look to them if you find yourself disoriented. They are more like the Jay-Z lyric,
Just know I chose my own fate; I drove by the fork in the road and went straight
As you are out there building your personal brand to have more impact at work, don’t confuse policies with guidelines.
They were both put there for a reason (find out why) and assume they both can and will change.
