If you would rather listen than read; here you go:

No matter where you go, you are what you are player; And you can try to change but that’s just the top layer.

That quote is by Shawn Carter and it describes a recent discovery I’ve made. Ok, maybe the discovery really isn’t all that recent, but embracing it….is.

I’ve decided that I want to use some of my off-time for contract work. I just didn’t know it was actually contract work I was looking for. At first I was thinking about what I could actually “build,” as a business.

The more I thought about it, I realized that I don’t want to build anything. I want to take the diverse skills I’ve learned over several decades in Corporate America and as an entrepreneur and use it to help people and companies with their own projects; specifically in the digital marketing space.

So it seemed clear as far as messaging goes: I have about 5 to 10 hours a week that I can use to help a business or individual with my digital marketing skills (websites, social media, content marketing, etc.).

Notice I said, “seemed clear.” Meaning it wasn’t that simple. Somewhere along the line, probably during my hour long work commute, something else came into play.

I was reminded about the visceral reaction I get when I think about how I can help to bridge the knowledge and resource gap for people of color. I really think Entrepreneurial thinking is part of that equation; I just haven’t figured out the whole formula yet.

That reminder about being of service to people who look like me and institutions who serve people who look like me really had me think about my situation of looking for contract work a little bit differently.

What if my search for contract work focused mainly on working with individuals and companies looking to advance people of color, especially in the areas of entrepreneurial thinking.

Who are these companies, institutions and individuals who fit the bill (pun intended)? I don’t fully know dot dot dot, yet.

I guess that’s why I’m talking to you. In hopes that you will help me to identify and connect with companies and institutions that could use the help of a dynamic, passionate, business and people savvy individual who understands how to transform ideas into action. And “Yes,” I am that individual.

I’m looking to help an organization get something started or infuse new blood and energy into a project.

Here is what I’m ideally looking for:

  1. An organization or individual who is focused on helping people of color advance by using entrepreneurial thinking (they don’t necessarily have to be helping people start businesses, just thinking like an entrepreneur).
  2. They can use an asynchronous partner to get something started (I’m available nights and weekends) .
  3. They have the budget to support 5 – 10hrs of work a week. Trust me, I’m gonna give them a good deal. I would do the work for free but my 2 year son reminded me that diapers, milk and Elmo figurines cost money.

Code2040 is an example of the kind of organization I would like to work with.

So what do you say? Do you want to help? Do you know an organization that “kind of” fits what I’m looking for but not exactly? Have your people call my people…Oh wait, I am my people.

I look forward from to hearing from you.

Don’t forget to Run the Point, that’s take action from where you are, with what you have.

Signing out…Your Ambassador, Mike Bruny

I have a deep desire to help spread entrepreneurial thinking as the solutions to many of our problems today. I am a project kind of guy who loves to get things started. When I'm not in search of contract work (projects) that I can do during the nights and weekends I can be found working as a mild mannered Digital Content Manager for Babson Executive Education.
