I first met Cheryl Dolan in 2011 at the Massachusetts Conference For Women. The great connector, Pam Slim, knew we would both be at the conference so she suggested that we meet. Years later we are still helping each other out.

In this video I talk about a personal situation where Cheryl was really helpful. I was running my first Spartan Race and had to immediately head to the airport afterwards to catch a flight from Boston to California.

I used Google to map out the route and to find a place where I could take a quick shower (they hose you down after the race, but that wouldn’t be enough to be comfortable on a six hour flight). I found a YMCA that looked like it wouldn’t be too off my route and was ready to go….or so I thought.

I let my peeps on social media know of my plans and Cheryl Dolan responded,

“I don’t think you are going to make your flight. That town looks like it’s on the way, but it’s really hard to get in and out of there. I don’t live to far from the race site; why don’t you shower at my place.”

She left me a key, I showered after the race, I made my flight and all was right in the world.

Note that all this began with a relationship that was built at a conference. It’s not all business people; networking is about life.

What’s your best conference networking story? I’d like to hear it in the comments below.

Remember, long after the conference has concluded, it’s the connections that continue.

I have a deep desire to help spread entrepreneurial thinking as the solutions to many of our problems today. I am a project kind of guy who loves to get things started. When I'm not in search of contract work (projects) that I can do during the nights and weekends I can be found working as a mild mannered Digital Content Manager for Babson Executive Education.
