“WE SAMPLE BEATS, YOU SUE AND TRY TO FIGHT US; MAN YOU’D STILL BE HOME WITH ARTHRITIS.”-Big Daddy Kane (Young Gifted and Black)

Generation War? In the workplace and social settings I’m hearing more and more about this gap between the generations. Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y and Millenniums. I’ll share the proverb my dad always shared with me, “Si Jeunesse Savait, Si Viellesse Pouvait.” Translated, “If the young only knew, if the old only could.” What’s missing from the “youth?” The wisdom of the older folks. What’s missing from the “older folks?” The energy of the youth. Basically, we need each other. Listen to each other and remember we can learn from each other.
Affirmation of the Day: I’m open to learning from someone who is older or younger than me.
Question of the Day: What really gets in the way of you connecting with a different generation?
Action of the Day: List the stereotypes you hold when it comes to different generations (i.e. those old folks are…; those young kids are…) and have discussions around those biases.
Run the Point, from where you are, with what you have!
