“DON’T BE QUICK TO JUDGE, YOU MAY NOT KNOW THE HARDSHIPS PEOPLE DON’T SPEAK OF.”

Affirmation of the Day: I am not quick to judge.

I wish I could say I am not quick to judge. The truth is as hard as I work on not being judgmental, every so often I slip back into my old ways.

Recently, I was part of a leadership gathering where I was meeting several people for the first time.  I found myself making up stories about each and everyone of them, even though I knew very little about them.  “Oh this one thinks they are so smart; oh this one needs a lot of attention, oh this one seems like a cool person,” and on and on.  By the end of the time I spent with them, I found out that I was so wrong about many of them.  The first impression is just that, a first impression.  I’m glad I took the time to get to know these people who I now consider friends.

Do you think you can do better? Just think about the saying, “first impressions are the most important.” If that isn’t judgement I don’t know what is. One interaction is supposed to tell you everything you need to know about an individual and a situation?  I don’t think so. If someone is acting up or not bringing their “A” game, give them the benefit of the doubt that they are having a bad day or their is a story behind the story.

Don’t judge unless you are ready to be judged! Not the exact quote from the Bible, but you get the picture.

Question of the Day: When was the last time you caught yourself being judgemental?

Action of the Day: When you catch yourself being judgmental, say the following to yourself, “There is more to the situation than I know.”

Run the Point; from where you are, with what you have.
