Each year, Halloween tells me that the holiday season is quickly approaching. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and any company-out-of-office time make meeting deadlines or sales quotas extremely difficult and unpredictable. New Years is less happy when you missed a quota or messed up a project because of others being unreachable.
In my experience, the most important factor in missing the holiday slump is to be proactive before the second week of December. Find out when your coworkers, partners, prospects, or anyone you rely on to get your work done are going to be out of the office or unavailable. Plan ahead so you are not shocked by last minute ‘Tracy is out of the office for the company Holiday Party at TGI Fridays. She will return on January 2nd.”
The second and final piece of advice: build the necessary relationships to ensure that if you must contact people outside of normal business hours or during holiday breaks that you won’t be out of line or risk the deal / project / deadline.
