Affirmation of the Day: The most I can spend on anyone is time
Below are a my quick thoughts on how you can stay connected with the folks you really want to. Let me know what you think and if the notes are valuable to you. Do you have additional tips and thoughts?…please do share.
Use an event as an excuse to connect: I drove down to NYC on Sunday night and drove back on Monday afternoon. It didn’t give me much time to see everyone I wanted to see but it did give me time to see the folks I planned to see. On Sunday my fraternity celebrated it’s 17th Anniversary and 100th member. It was great to be there with all the youthful spirit of the folks who are still in college. I quickly learned that my presence was a big deal. The fact that I drove from Massachusetts to be with the fellas really meant a lot to them.
Do absolutely nothing: Just being can easily be seen as overrated. The question that comes up is, “What are we going to do together?” instead of just enjoying the time spent together talking and chilling. I want you to pay attention and just spend time with your people. It may feel like you are not doing anything, but let the connection with another human being be worth something. Obviously, in the world of social networking it easy to feel that we are connected because I read your latest status update, tweet or Tumblr note. It’s just not the same.
Make the time and decide who you want to connect with: To continue with my point, I’m on a mission to have face-to-face connections (where possible) with the folks who believe in using hip hop lyrics as a tool for empowerment and personal/professional development. Yesterday, I did just that by connecting with Tonya “Rap” Rapley who is just an awesome woman who has a vision of creating her on curriculum around hip hop and hip hop culture. I can better serve you because I connected with her in Brooklyn at Nunu chocolate.
Everyone has to Eat: Just before I headed on 95N I stopped off in Manhattan to catch a quick lunch with one of my friends and business partner. Food is always a good way for us to take a time out and connect with folks.
Question of the Day:Who do you need to spend more time with?
Action of the Day: Set up a plan to call someone you need to spend more time with before and after Thanksgiving
