Hip Hop Affirmation of the Day #208
Affirmation of the Day: Don’t be surprised if I change, be surprised if I stay the same
A few years back I was asked by Brazen Careerist to contribute a brief video (about 30 seconds) on how to rock your career [I must warn you that it’s a throwback when I was just starting out with video so be kind]. Check it out below.
Brazen Careerist used to be one of the hottest forums for Gen Y folks. It was one of the most powerful forums that I have ever seen.
That’s right, I said it. It was a professional and engaging environment. If you had a question about WordPress, marketing, personal branding, there were specific network groups on Brazen (Ambassador’s Rule: you can shorten their name only after your were a member of the site. Similar to calling Cape Cod, “The Cape,” or Martha’s Vineyard, “The Vineyard,” …you gotta earn the right) to connect you with the information you need. Maybe you just want to connect with folks in your local area, more than likely Brazen had a group for your location.
“No” I don’t have any stock in the company, but when I like something I let folks know about it. A question you may be asking, “Do I really need to be involved in another site? How is it going to really benefit me? Prove it to me buddy!” Well here is one of my personal Brazen Careerist stories:
1. I was looking to go to Stanford to sell my book, “Move the Crowd: 30 Days of Hip Hop Affirmations to Change Your Life.” I reached out to all my network, but it was a connection on Brazen that reached back out, got on the phone with me and helped me, pull things together to sell my books at one of Stanford’s annual events. Thanks @Tariqwest!
How does this all tie into change?
Believe it or not I started out being anti “social media.” I thought it was a fad and I thought it really couldn’t be helpful.
You may be thinking social media is just a toy but consider it as a tool to do good for those you know and an opportunity for others to help you as well.
What’s your change story? I’d like to know.
Run the Point from where you are, with what you have!
