Affirmation of the Day: As long as I have my mind, I have hope
Yesterday, I took my car in to get an oil change. As I pulled into the gas station I was greeted by one of the mechanics / attendants named Sam. He asked that I pull over to the side and wait a moment as he used a broom handle with a squeegee attachment to remove excess water from the garage area. As I watched this, I could not help put think, “Is hard work enough?”
Sam works 6 days a week at the gas station while his wife is getting her Ph.d. I could not help but ask, “What would I do in that situation?” “Is he happy?” My thoughts of , “there’s got to be a better way,” was interrupted by Sam, waving me forward. I asked him how the heat is treating him. In the winter we want heat and in the heat we want winter. He interrupted me and at the same time answered my question about his happiness with, “This job sucks.” I left it at that, but I’m really curious about what his dreams and plans are moving forward. Were they put on hold or totally eliminated?
I have a second car that needs an oil change so it’s a good opportunity for me to ask the question.
