Affirmation of the Day: I know life is a process and I have come a long way from where I used to be.
This hip hop affirmation comes to you live from the Food For Thought Books, which is an unbelievable spot in Amherst, MA that is run as a collective. They are basically owned by the employees. It has a very cool vibe and I had a chance to chill with one of the owns, Carlos “Rec” McBride. “Rec” is originally from the NYC area and has great energy. He agreed to have my book, “Move the Crowd: 30 Days of Hip Hop Affirmation to Change Your Life,” in his store and has invited me back for a book reading and signing. How could I say, “no.”
Rec shared his stories growing up in NYC and Springfield, MA and how he made a change in his lifestyle from dropping out of school in 9th grade, to currently being a Ph.D candidate. Rec’s advice to anyone looking to make a change:
“It’s a process and know that there will be times you take steps back, but you have to keep going. If we are on the path to empowering ourselves the process can be so daunting because it’s so different from what we are used to. We have to constantly ask ourselves the question, ‘who am I?’ while going through this process. It’s important as we move forward not to don’t forget where we came from and find our own way of giving back. We have to serve as Ambassadors so we have steady growth of our communities.”
Question of the Day: What have you done and where have you come from?
Action of the Day: Take a moment to be in awe at all the things you have accomplished in your life.
Run the Point; from where you are, with what you have!
Your Ambassador,
Mike Bruny
