Hip Hop Affirmation: Inner peace takes care of many outer struggles
Tweet This: “There’s a War Going on Outside, No Man is Safe From.” -Mobb Deep
The war on the inside will always trump the war on the outside.
Mobb Deep lied to us in the lyric, “There’s a war going on outside, no man is safe from.” My experience has proven something a little bit different.
The war, conflict or challenge that you bump up against on the outside is real, but it’s nothing in comparison to the war we face when we stop fighting someone else and start looking at our inner struggle.
What are you struggling with. For me it has been a bit of indecision. Answering the question, “What do you want?” has been one that has been with me for decades.
The little bit of doubt that creeps in when no one is around; “Can I really do this?” or the bigger one of identity, “Who am I and why the hell was I put on this earth,” is the real war.
I’ve spoken about identity before in terms of Nationality as well as Race but there is also the question of what it means to be a man. How much of what we believe is driven by society and marketing versus making an “independent choice.”
Not as many answers on this one. Mostly questions.
Moves to Make
Slow down long enough to actually hear the internal conflict. Mastering that will make anything you face externally that much easier.
Let’s keep the conversation going on Facebook
